If you find yourself bored out of your mind while reading this and end up making a list of the Top 10 ways this page could be better, Creative Writing workshops and courses at Kirtland are for you.
This is a Website page. It is not designed to move you the way poetry does. It is designed to make you feel so at home that you complete coursework at Kirtland and become an award-winning writer or teacher.
Brace yourself. This is no coffee shop filled with wanna-bes. KCC offers one of the few associate’s in fine arts degrees in Creative Writing in the nation and it is one of the first colleges to offer such a degree.
The program at KCC will give you experience in several genres, as well as the academic background necessary for further study at a four-year college or university.
If you become a Creative Writing major, you’ll study the techniques of creating and discussing poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction through introductory classes and workshops where you’ll write poems or prose.
You also will have the opportunity to:
- help with Controlled Burn, Kirtland’s national literary magazine
- take part in student readings and
- work with instructors who already are award-winning published writers
The associate’s degree at Kirtland is for you if you plan to write or to teach creative writing. It provides a strong foundation upon which you can build a bachelor’s or master’s degree — and a life you love.

Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university must consult with an advisor and carefully study the requirements of the four-year institution from which they intend to secure a bachelor's degree.
