Kirtland’s law enforcement department will arm you with the skills to become a:
- police officer
- sheriff's deputy
- correctional officer
- probation or parole officer or
- dispatcher
You could pursue higher-level positions within local, state and even federal agencies with advanced training, education and experience. Kirtland offers:
Associate in Applied Science — Criminal Justice Administration
is for you if you wish to pursue a career in law enforcement other than actually being a police officer. It can help you land a job in crime prevention, the detection and apprehension of criminals, deterrence of delinquency, corrections, probation, parole and many other facets of law enforcement.
Associate in Applied Science — Criminal Justice Pre-Service
is designed for future police officers. With this degree and successful completion of the 17-week Kirtland Regional Police Academy, you will be eligible for employment as a law enforcement officer in most police agencies in Michigan and some other states.
Associate in Criminal Justice – Generalist degree
is Kirtland’s transfer degree. It is intended for students who plan to eventually complete a bachelor's degree at a four-year university in criminal justice or a related field.
The Kirtland Regional Police Academy
covers the bases and prepares you for a job in the world of law enforcement.
The Careers in Emergency Services Department has been a flagship program at Kirtland since the mid-1970s. Kirtland's law enforcement instructors include more than 50 adjunct faculty members. They are:

All candidates must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA or better, with a grade of C or better in all emergency services courses. A mandatory dress code is in effect for all students enrolled in the emergency services curriculum. Students have the opportunity to plan for transfer to a four-year college or university.
Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university must consult with an advisor and carefully study the requirements of the four-year institution from which they intend to secure a bachelor's degree.
