Kirtland Community College’s Careers in Emergency Services Department has lots of options to make you a professional in:

Kirtland’s Emergency Services programs are designed to support you regardless of where you are on your career path. KCC’s curriculum will help you even if you are transferring in from another college or plan to eventually complete a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field.

All candidates must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA or better, with a grade of C or better in all emergency services courses. A mandatory dress code is in effect for all students enrolled in the emergency services curriculum. Students have the opportunity to plan for transfer to a four-year college or university.

Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university must consult with an advisor and carefully study the requirements of the four-year institution from which they intend to secure a bachelor's degree.

Recognition of Prior Training & Experience Program

Kirtland Community College works in cooperation with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) to provide a recertification review program and testing for former and out-of-state officers hoping to regain Michigan certification.

Candidates for recertification must first apply to MCOLES. For information, contact Sandra Luther at 517-322-6608.

Once the candidate has received authorization from MCOLES, he/she may contact Kirtland Community College to register for the Waiver of Training program and/or test. The review program is conducted at the Kirtland House. The firearms portion is conducted at the Kirtland Community College Firing Range on -97, across from the main campus. Written testing is conducted at Kirtland Community College.
