Kirtland’s strategic location in the heart of fire-prone northern Michigan makes it a logical choice for training in the fire sciences. KCC staff members are devoted to keeping local emergency response teams up to speed on the latest fire-fighting techniques.
Kirtland offers:
Fire Fighter I and II
courses that will qualify you for a position on most local fire departments
Fire Science Certificate
the way to go if you’re already working in the field of public safety and want to be able to respond to emergencies that require firefighting
Associate in Applied Science curriculum in Fire Science Administration
if you are interested in more in-depth training in fire fighting and courses in criminal justice
Kirtland is a state-recognized “regional firefighter training center” and is part of a consortium that works with local city and township fire departments.

All candidates must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA or better, with a grade of C or better in all emergency services courses. A mandatory dress code is in effect for all students enrolled in the emergency services curriculum. Students have the opportunity to plan for transfer to a four-year college or university.
Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university must consult with an advisor and carefully study the requirements of the four-year institution from which they intend to secure a bachelor's degree.
