OK, so you know you want to work in health care, but you're not sure which area to choose.
Kirtland has you covered.
The Health Sciences program at Kirtland Community College is extremely popular. The list of available courses and programs may impress you at first — and then begin to overwhelm you. Where should you begin?
Your first step really needs to be a conversation with a Health Sciences advisor at Kirtland. The experts available to you free of charge will help you choose thoughtfully from the assortment of programs available in Health Services including:
- nursing (CNA, LPN or RN)
- cardiac sonography
- surgical technology
- pharmacy technician and
- radiography
Kirtland also offers full-time and part-time nursing courses and a CNA course at both the central campus near Roscommon as well as at KCC's M-TEC site in Gaylord; Level I LPN classes are held at both the central campus and the M-TEC site in Gaylord; Level II RN courses are held only at central campus. KCC's Nursing program includes both classroom study and supervised clinical practice (actual patient care) in health care facilities around the region.
The Cardiac Sonography program at the M-TEC site in Gaylord is first-rate and will give you what you need to develop expertise in diagnosing heart disease. This program zeroes in on cardiac sonography. You'll emerge from this concentrated coursework with in-depth knowledge and expertise.
As a KCC student in the Surgical Technology program, you will be trained to work with surgeons and other medical personnel to ensure a safe surgical environment, including monitoring equipment to maximize every patient's well-being during invasive and diagnostic procedures.
The Pharmacy Technology program will train you to be a pharmacy technician. You will learn the skills necessary work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and will be able to order, prepare, package and stock medications. Your Kirtland Pharmacy Technology certificate will give you marketable skills as you consider employment in a variety of settings.
Beyond the impressive lineup of available courses, impressive instructors and excellent hands-on opportunities lies the real beauty of the program: its flexibility.
The Health Sciences certificate and degree programs at Kirtland are designed to provide upward mobility because your educational goals may change over time. You may start out as a Licensed Practical Nurse and return to Kirtland to earn an associate's degree and become a Registered Nurse.
Each one of the programs offers the potential for a good income, benefits, job mobility, leadership opportunities, flexible work schedules and the opportunity to help people in a time of need.
