Licensed pharmacists need more help than ever before because of our aging population.
You can help people in need — including those sometimes overworked pharmacists — as a certified pharmacy technician.
The Pharmacy Technology certificate program at Kirtland Community College will give you a future filled with good income, flexible work schedules and job mobility. All you have to do is complete the 25-credit-hour program — and you can do it in just one academic year.
Most of KCC’s required Pharmacy Technology classes are offered in an online or hybrid format. You can begin building your future quickly while in the comfort of your own home and only head to KCC’s main campus in Roscommon one day each month. Once you’ve graduated from the certificate program, you will be eligible to take a national certification exam.
As a trained pharmacy technician you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and will be trained to order, prepare, package and stock medications. Your Kirtland Pharmacy Technology certificate will give you marketable skills as you consider employment in a variety of settings including:
- retail pharmacies
- hospitals
- long-term care facilities and
- mail-order or online services
Employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow by an estimated 31 percent by 2018. The median income for pharmacy technicians in Michigan for 2008 was more than $13 per hour, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and those in the middle 50 percent earned between $10.95 and $15.88 per hour.
You’ll be glad you delivered this healthy dose of education and training to your future when you have a solid career as a pharmacy technician.
