You’re a special somebody if you see yourself as a police officer or sheriff’s deputy.
Kirtland’s Regional Police Academy will give you the physical and mental training you’ll need to succeed as a professional law enforcement officer.
KCC’s academy will prepare you to be an officer with the self-discipline, respect for authority and attention to detail necessary for you to have extraordinary standards — and be safe on the job.
The Regional Police Academy is one of the most sought after spots in Kirtland Community College’s Careers in Emergency Services Department. It is a 17-week challenge that will allow you to pursue a career in service to your community — if you meet the challenge.
The 21-credit academy completes the curriculum necessary for Kirtland’s Criminal Justice Pre-Service or Criminal Justice-Administration associate’s degrees and can be taken after completing an associate’s degree through another accredited college or university. It is the final step most students will take toward becoming a police officer.
The academy uses the most up-to-date resources available including Kirtland’s on-campus firing range. The state-required core curriculum will prepare you for the state certification exam (Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards or MCOLES). If you apply to the Kirtland Regional Police Academy, you must meet educational, physical and moral standards established by MCOLES.
The academy will give you the basic training and real-world skills you need through classroom lectures and hands-on experience delivered by a wide range of faculty members who represent decades of combined professional experience and are specialists in their area of training including:

You will participate in intensive, disciplined, military-style training as a cadet. Once you are accepted into the academy you will be required to follow a strict code of conduct, including a dress code.
Somebody has to hold the bar for safety and security in this sometimes-crazy world. If you’re reading this, you must be that somebody.
