Supervisory Fire Engine Operator GS-0462-07/08, Huron-Manistee National Forest, Mio Ranger Station, Mio, MI

This position is established on a Forest Service unit to serve as a first line supervisor on a Fire Engine Module (Type 3 engine) with primary responsibility for wildland fire suppression. The position is located in areas with the added complexities of wildland-urban interface, including proximity of high-value improvements, and regular and recurring all-hazard incidents and frequent interagency jurisdictional issues and coordination requirements. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership of the module crew, both during fire suppression and on prescribed burns.

The position meets the definition of an Interagency Fire Management Program (IFPM) position, as designated by WO Fire Management. The incumbent must meet the qualifications specified in the Qualifications Standards and Guide prior to October 1, 2009.

Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license. If operating a Type III Engine, the incumbent will be required to possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL). If a CDL is required, the position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. The Incumbent will be required to submit a urinalysis specimen at a designated medical facility, to screen for illegal drug use. These screenings are required prior to appointment and on a random basis post appointment.

Performs wildfire suppression support as directed within training and physical capabilities.
