Kirtland Hosts ‘Empty Bowls’ Fundraising Auction

Hundreds of handcrafted ceramic bowls are on display at Kirtland Community College’s Student Center on the main campus near Roscommon where they will be auctioned off on to raise money for the River House shelter in Grayling, MI.  A silent auction and soup reception will be held on Wednesday, November 7 from 5-7:30 p.m.

Through an ongoing partnership between Kirtland’s Service Learning department and River House, Inc., the annual Empty Bowls project provides much needed funds to help the shelter continue to provide safety and services to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and the homeless population throughout Crawford, Ogemaw, Oscoda and Roscommon counties.  The bowls, and the project, are aptly named and serve as a reminder and symbol of the hunger, poverty and homelessness that exists in all of our neighboring communities.  Last year’s Empty Bowls Project brought in over $2,000 for River House and the local clients the non-profit serves.

Community members are also encouraged to visit Kirtland’s Student Center in advance to place bids on the bowls on display for this year’s Empty Bowls fundraiser if unable to attend the event in person
