Don’t bother going to FAFSA.com; it’s not free. Use the resources at KCC for free. They can help you complete the steps for Pell grants and Stafford loans.
Not everyone qualifies for free money, but everyone will find free application help at KCC. You may qualify for:
- loans
- student employment
- scholarships
If you want to stay on top of your financial aid opportunities, completing your FAFSA (at FAFSA.gov) needs to be on your radar every year — just like filing taxes. You need to reapply every year.
The financial aid process takes time. Think about it and plan for it. Be proactive and pack your patience.

Financial Aid Reference Guide
The reference guide is designed to give you a picture of the financial aid programs available at Kirtland Community College. As a consumer of educational services and programs, you should be fully aware of the assistance that you're entitled to and your rights and responsibilities.
We strongly urge you to read this guide carefully and keep it for future reference.
Enrollment Status
Your enrollment status directly affects the amount of most federal and state financial aid you are eligible to receive. All initial awards are offered based on the assumption that you will enroll full time. Below is a chart of the enrollment status requirements:
Full Time: 12 or more semester credits
Three-quarter time: 9 to 11.99 semester credits
Half-Time: 6 to 8.99 semester credits
One-quarter time: 1 to 5.99 semester credits
If you enroll for less than full- time you may see a reduction to your award(s). You must enroll for at least six credits to receive either work-study or a student loan.
Repeated Coursework
Students may receive financial aid for the repeat of a previously passed course one time.
Financial Aid Office Code of Conduct
The Office of Financial Aid follows Kirtland's Employee Code of Conduct (POL 5.005) which prohibits conflicts of interest. In addition, as a member of the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) we follow the NASFAA Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for Institutional Financial Aid Professionals.
