Institutional Scholarships

2012-2013 Kirtland Community College Ambassador Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for all Kirtland students (incoming or current) who have a willingness to represent the college to others with pride and enthusiasm. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 and be prepared to fulfill a minimum of 60 hours of campus promotion through various events. Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2012. This scholarship is intended for first and second year Kirtland students pursuing a vocational/occupational career. Student and parent, grandparent or legal guardian must have attended or graduated from Gerrish-Higgins/Roscommon High School.

2012 Zonta Club of Roscommon County Area Sophomore Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for women in the Roscommon County Area achieve their educational goals through higher education. We are providing an opportunity for second year student to earn a scholarship after completing their first year of College, University or Vocational/Technical education.

2012 Zonta Club of Roscommon County Area Return to Learn Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for women in the Roscommon County Area achieve their educational goals through higher education. We are providing an opportunity for a woman who desires to pursue additional education or refine her skills to enter or re-enter the working world.

Transfer Scholarships

Scholarships for Community College Transfer Students - University of Michigan

Michigan Community College Scholarship, a one-time scholarship award of $1,500

and

The Michigan Community College Scholar Award, a renewable, annual award of $5,000 for students who have participated in honor societies, co-curricular activities and volunteer or community service activities. Consideration is also given to students who have demonstrated other challenges or need. (Students may receive $2,500 per term for up to a maximum of five terms.)

All Michigan community college students entering U-M in the fall or winter terms are considered for both the Community College Scholarship and the Michigan Community College Scholar Award through the U-M Office of Financial Aid.

Western Michigan University 2012 Transfer Scholarships, available to Michigan community college transfer students.

Primary transfer scholarships

  • Transfer Scholarship for Achievement: $1,000 for the 2012-13 academic year
    • Requires a 3.25 -3.49 GPA in transferable courses and completion of at least 26 transferable credit hours.
    • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
    • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college.
    • No scholarship application required.
    • Must enroll as a full time student (12 or more credit hours a semester)
  • Transfer Academic Scholarship: $3,000 ($1,500/year)
    • Requires minimum GPA of 3.5 in transferable courses and completion of at least 26 transferable credit hours by August 1 st deadline.
    • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college.
    • No scholarship application required.
    • Awarded four semesters (fall/spring) or until graduation, whichever comes first. Subject to maintenance criteria.
    • Must enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (fall/spring)
    • Replaces Transfer Scholarship for Achievement for qualifying students.
  • Metro Detroit Transfer Scholarship: $1,000 for the 2012-13 academic year
    • For students transferring from Henry Ford CC, Macomb CC, Oakland CC, Schoolcraft College, or Wayne County CC. Transfer College is determined by the most recent, completed transfer work completed at the time of application.
    • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by August 1 st deadline.
    • Minimum transferable course GPA of 3.00
    • May be combined with the Transfer Scholarship for Achievement or the Transfer Academic Scholarship (see requirements above)
    • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
    • Must enroll as a full time student (12 or more credit hours a semester)
    • No scholarship application required.

Competitive transfer scholarships (Recipients may receive only one of the following.)

  • Distinguished Community College Scholars Award : $6,500 ($3,250/year)
    • Requires a minimum 3.75 GPA and completion of an associate's degree before entering WMU.
    • Requires membership in WMU’s Lee Honors College
    • Awarded to 20 students selected by the Transfer Scholarship Committee
    • Must have completed at least 26 transferrable credit hours by the March 1 st deadline.
    • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college
  • Community College President's Scholarship : $5,000 ($2,500/year)
    • Requires a minimum 3.5 transferable GPA
    • Awarded to 20 students selected by the Transfer Scholarship Committee
    • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by the March 1 st deadline.
    • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college
  • Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Scholarship: $4,500 ($2,250/year)
    • Requires a minimum 3.5 transferable GPA
    • Requires Phi Theta Kappa membership in good standing for consideration.
    • Awarded to one student per Phi Theta Kappa Chapter
    • Must have completed at least 26 transferrable credit hours by the March 1 st deadline.
    • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college.

Regional/National External Scholarships

2012 Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) - Greater Southeastern Michigan Chapter Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for individuals currently enrolled in a nursing program.  AMSN recognizes MedSurg Nursing as a specialty.  This $500 scholarship is aimed at nurses or students who are interested in a career in MedSurg Nursing.

2012-2013 Association of American Indian Affairs Scholarship

These scholarships are intended for Native Americans.  All applicants must be enrolled in their tribe, meet additional criteria and be at least ¼ Indian blood (Allogan Slagle Scholarship for students from non-recognized tribes see scholarship for details).  All AAIA scholarships are for students enrolled full time both fall and spring semesters.

2012-2013 Sault Tribes Higher Education Scholarship/Grant/Incentive Award Program

Pink/Orange Sault Tribe Higher Education Application packets are now available.  Please visit their website at :  www.saulttribe.com or their facebook page for criteria requirements: “Sault Tribe Higher Education Department”.  The Sault Tribe’s Education Division offers three Higher Education Programs — a Grant Program, the Self-Sufficiency Incentive Award Program and Scholarship Program:

Scholarship Information

2012-2013 Triad Mechanical HVAC Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for students interested in HVAC and currently pursuing a degree.  One winner will be chosen based on the quality of their essay.  The winning essay will be published on Triad Mechanical’s blog and the $500 scholarship money will be given in your name directly to the school of your choice to help you complete your education

2012-2013 TravelNursing.org Nursing Education Scholarship

This bi-annual scholarship is to benefit any High School Senior Currently applying for college, nursing school or medical vocational or technical training school or current college undergraduate in a premedical, nursing, or medical technician program. Applicants must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA based on the previous year's academic performance.
