Kirtland Community College, Kirtland’s Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Omicron Gamma Chapter Honor Society and the C.O.O.R. ISD are holding a free public food distribution at the college’s Roscommon campus Student Center on Tuesday, November 19. The event is open to students, members of the Crawford, Ogemaw, Oscoda and Roscommon county communities, and anyone else in need of assistance.
Every year, Kirtland’s Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Omicron Gamma Chapter collects food and money to make food baskets for families in our neighboring communities. For the second year in a row, Kirtland’s Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Omicron Gamma Chapter, the Student Senate, Student Activities and the Ms. Club are helping out on a much larger scale by partnering with C.O.O.R. ISD to bring a truck full of food from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to Kirtland’s Roscommon campus.
The food distribution will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19 and is available on a first come, first served basis. People are asked to bring their own containers for carrying food and limited to one distribution per family.
For Kirtland student’s needing food assistance on a more regular basis, the college also operates a Food Pantry specifically for students. Located in the Administration Building on college’s main campus in Roscommon, the Student Food Pantry is open Monday-Thursday each week when class is in session. Students must be currently enrolled at Kirtland and show a current Kirtland ID card and are able take advantage of the pantry once a month. Applying for food bank assistance is private to ensure student anonymity.
