Here at Kirtland, we seem to be obsessed with “college.” Go figure! Obviously, as an institute of higher learning, education is what we know and what we do. Sure, we interact daily with our current students in Roscommon, West Branch, Gaylord and online. But, did you know we also spend a lot of time and energy reaching out to younger learners in our communities to help plant that learning seed? Igniting the higher education flame.
This Week @ Kirtland, we hosted over 20 homeschooling students and their parents at our annual Homeschooler’s Event. What a great opportunity for these students to learn the many ways in which Kirtland can partner with them to start planning for college.
Geared for home schooling students in grades 7-12, our Homeschooler’s Event introduces students and their families to important college issues like earning college credit through dual enrollment, general college admission requirements, and financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Our homeschooling attendees also have the
opportunity to experience the college classroom setting firsthand in one of Kirtland’s impressive active learning classrooms and experiment in our state-of-the-art automotive and cosmetology labs.
Our Homeschooler’s Event attendees were even lucky enough to take part in a bonus activity this year by visiting ceramics instructor Joe Donna’s first-ever Pottery Friday. In addition to getting a crash course on ceramics, this year’s attendees got to make bowls for our upcoming Empty Bowls fundraiser event which supports Grayling’s River House Shelter. But wait…that’s a story for a different day. (Stay tuned…it’s a great story!)
So…at Kirtland we’re here to prepare students for the future. No matter where you are on your educational journey, Kirtland is ready to partner with you for your personal and career success. Now that’s a story worth checking out every day of the week!
