Director/Academic Advisor for M-TEC
Assist, advises, and collaborates closely with main campus staff on all related matters to student services activities at M-TEC.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Assist, advises, and collaborates closely with main campus staff on all related matters to student services activities at M-TEC.
Supervises non-instructional staff, coordinates activities, and arranges for appropriate training and technical support
Prepares and administers M-TEC operational budgets for student services
Administers college policies, procedures, practices, and communicates decisions of the board of trustees and college administration to M-TEC student services personnel
Assists in conducting advisory committee meetings as requested by the college president
Serves as a liaison to Otsego County, its agencies and people, and represents the college at community functions
Routinely collects data useful in managing services at the M-TEC site
Works collaboratively with the Executive Director of the University Center at Gaylord on matters of shared operations
Participates in planning special activities and carries out strategic initiatives
Ensures efficient scheduling and allotment of M-TEC classrooms and labs through collaboration with the Dean of Instruction
Meets with new students to discuss admission requirements, financial aid, and assists students with setting up their academic schedules and completing the registration process
Provides academic advising to M-TEC students in collaboration with M-TEC faculty; coordinates and monitors academic activity and progress from the time of application through graduation
Acts as liaison to agencies sponsoring students and local area high schools sponsoring dual-enrolled students
Consults with central campus to provide professional counseling for students
Evaluates students’ applications, and other student services materials to determine individual criteria for program admission
Updates and maintains student files, monitors student progress, corresponds with students on an ongoing basis, and prepares preliminary graduation audits for the Registrar
Coordinates and conducts new student registration and orientation with assistance from main campus
Participates in college night and community events (college night) to represent and promote the M-TEC
Maintains highly confidential information and protects the confidentiality of student information
Responsible for taking payments from students and posting payments to student accounts
Provides oversight to college admissions testing at M-TEC.
Provides support to Registrar on the main campus
Performs other related tasks as required
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the dean of student services in cooperation with the president and dean of instruction
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human services, or related area
- Three to five years of experience in an academic setting or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Proficiency in a wide variety of software applications (spreadsheets, tables, graphs, data base management) and ability to learn new software as need arises
- Ability to work effectively with students, professionals, and governmental entities in an adult academic setting
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with personnel, administration and governing boards
- Demonstrated effective leadership capabilities
- Experience working in post-secondary education is desirable
