Provides tutorial assistance in math arts to students, with a focus on those with special learning problems. Conducts workshop and classroom presentations on topics to benefit under-prepared college students, marketing of tutoring services, or specific content areas as needed. Assists the director of tutoring and student success by training and mentoring new tutors and assisting with other technical aspects of the tutorial program. I
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Tutors students in individual or group settings, especially those with special learning problems.
Conducts workshop and classroom presentations on math-related topics as well as marketing of tutoring services or specific content areas as needed.
Assists at tutor training sessions and mentoring of new tutors.
Develops original materials for training sessions and tutoring sessions.
Documents student progress and maintains required records related to classroom and/or laboratory experience in the college and/or cooperating agencies.
Communicates with the faculty regarding student progress and other matters related to student welfare.
Ensures that adequate instructional materials are available to meet course objectives; this may include preparing and submitting requests for instructional materials, supplies and equipment to the faculty.
May proctor examinations as necessary.
Utilizes advanced training and expertise to benefit other tutors and the tutorial program.
Attends and participates in conferences and professional associations for tutors.
Performs other related tasks as required.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the director of library and tutoring
- Associate degree in math or related field
- Three years tutorial experience as a non-student tutor, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Must have attended tutorial conferences as well as participated in other seminars and workshops on tutorial issues and developmental/learning disabled issues; issues in LD issues should equal a minimum of 25 hours of professional in-servicing
- Able to function independently, respect confidentiality, implement problem solving, and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
