Part-time Financial Aid Enrollment Facilitator

Kirtland Community College, located near Roscommon, Michigan, is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time, 24 hour per week position responsible for advising new financial aid applicants regarding eligibility requirements, application procedures and available financial aid and veteran benefit programs.  It is expected that an individual in this position, upon completion of appropriate training, would respond to and correctly answer the substantial majority of new student questions regarding the aid process, and would appropriately refer in-depth & complex situations to financial aid advisor or director.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Convey to students how the financial aid process works from beginning to end.
  • Counsel students/families in writing, person and on the telephone about aid programs, application procedures and eligibility criteria.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, a variety of financial aid and enrollment related information to new financial aid applicants.
  • Facilitate student financial aid file completion. Verify application information and assess the validity of documentation including review and correction of Student Aid Reports.
  • Counsel students/parents regarding cost of attendance, methods of payment and management of financial aid responsibilities. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state aid regulations as it relates to assigned duties as well as institutional goals and objectives regarding financial aid.
  • Assist in revision of financial aid forms, policies and procedures.   Assist and participate in the development, review, and/or revision of brochures, manuals, handouts and other financial aid informational material.
  • Works with recruiter and admissions coordinator to promote student enrollment.
  • Participates in college night and community events to present financial aid information. 
  • Provide assistance (when requested by director) to the financial aid office support specialist or data support specialist.

SUPERVISION - Works under the general supervision of Director of Financial Aid

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in education, business, human services or related field
  •  One to three years direct work experience in financial aid, student support services or customer service in administering programs in a regulated environment, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
  • Experience with complex computer based systems and multi-faceted network related software and database management systems
  • 45 wpm accurate keyboarding skills
  • Demonstrated ability to process and maintain information that is often ambiguous and highly confidential.  Must understand and adhere to procedural and confidentiality requirements of federal and state laws.
  • Presentation skills and experience in front of groups of people or departments
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel during evening hours and winter conditions within the Kirtland service region
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to relate professionally and effectively with individuals having varied and diverse backgrounds and communication skill sets

SALARY - This is a newly-created part-time hourly support position.  Pending classification review, the 2011-12 pay range will be not less than $12.27 - $17.02 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Limited fringe benefit package.  

STARTING DATE - March, 2012
