Current Student Employment Openings

Peer Tutor:
Location: Tutoring Department (Library Building)
Supervisor: Deb Shumaker

Responsibilities: Meet individually or in a group session to help students successfully master course work with tutoring assistance. Help students develop good study skills for the tutored course(s). Recognize success and identify ways to improve. Require students to actively participate in tutoring sessions. Maintain documentation of services and record student progress. Communicate student progress or problems with instrustor and/or tutoring staff.

Qualifications: Relate easily and sensitively to students as well as be friendly, approachable, a good listener, and a good student role model. Have good communication skills and above average knowlede of subject(s) being tutored. Obtain the recommendation of an instructor in the subject in which you wish to tutor. Have completed the course(s) with a B+ or better. Maintain average or above average performance in all classes during the same time you are working as a tutor for KCC. Attend tutor training sessions and maintain professional work ethic and dress.

Admissions:
Location: ADM - Administration Center
Supervisor: Michelle Vyskocil, Michelle Devine

Responsibilities: Performs a combination of general clerical duties to maintain files and correspondence of student records. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times. May assist with campus tours and campus events and will also work with other student services departments as part of a work study pool performing other duties as assigned. This is a year round 20 hour per week opening. Occasional evenings and weekends are required during the new student orientations.

Qualifications: Filing, time management, organization, detail oriented, self-motivated, computer proficient, professional, ability to work independently. Must be enrolled a minimum of part-time in the fall and winter semesters and for at least 6 credit hours during the summer semester.

Kirtland Center for the Performing Arts - Technical Assistant (Summer 2012)
Location: PAC - Performing Arts Center
Supervisor: Joshua Jurgess

Responsibilities: Assists in the technical operation of all Performing Arts Center events. Students will perform construction of scenery, operate lighting and sound systems, operate hand and power tools in a safe manner, will assist in set-up and tear down of touring shows, unloading and loading trucks, must work on performing arts center events, Kirtland Youth Theatre events, and Theatre Arts Department productions. The job requires lifting and moving up to 50 lbs., bending, carrying, cleaning of backstage areas and other duties as assigned, must be able to climb ladders, operate man-lift and work in catwalk areas. Previous theatre experience helpful or other skills such as sewing, painting, etc.

Qualifications: Students must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings. Must be committed and dedicated to the success of each event and be able to work well with others as a member of the team. Any health or medical issues need to be shared that will be a liability issue regarding the performance of job responsibilities. Students may be required to drive college vehicles and need a clean driving record and a valid driver's license. Must be dependable and work efficiently. Some computer work may be required. Must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours during the summer semester.
