Investing In YOUR Future

No one questions the importance of getting an education in order to attain a great career.  A college education is worth the time and effort, but figuring out how to pay for your education can be a challenge.  This Week @ Kirtland we’ll share some tips on finding the financial aid package that’s right for you.

Whether you’re completing a program to become more valuable in your career field or planning to transfer to a four-year college or university, Kirtland provides education you can afford.  Attending Kirtland is approximately one-third the cost of a four-year school and our in-district tuition rates are the lowest in northern Michigan.  These two factors alone represent a huge savings in what you could spend on your college education.

February is Financial Aid Awareness month and it definitely pays to plan ahead.  A great resource to start navigating financial aid options is the U.S. Department of Education website at  One of the most important steps to prepare for college is completing your Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.  For the 2013-14 school year, it’s time to fill out your FAFSA application to apply for student grants, work-study and loans.

Think you won’t qualify?  Over 80% of first-time students received financial aid at Kirtland last year, which provided over $8.5 million to offset the cost of tuition.

FAFSA:  It’s FREE.  It can be done ENTIRELY online.  It can help PAY for your college.

Planning to transfer to a four-year school?  Kirtland transfers!  But, just like financial aid, you have to plan ahead.  First step?  Advisor, advisor, advisor!  Make sure to make an appointment with Kirtland’s Student Success Center for the right guidance.  You’ll need to make sure you’re taking the right courses and know the requirements of the college you will transfer to.

Already in school?  Take advantage of attending college rep visits when they come to Kirtland’s campus.  Reps from four-year schools regularly visit Kirtland to help students with a smooth transition.  In fact, a rep from Northwood University will be on campus on February 5!  For a list of upcoming college rep visits, check out  New visits are scheduled all the time, so check the page often!

Not in college yet?  Make sure to attend college night events where you’ll get to talk to reps from schools from all over the state – it’s a great resource to find out what schools are a fit for you and have the programs that interest you.
