KCC Firebirds Put Up Another Strong Showing

Mens Basketball Teams Now 2-0

The Kirtland Community College (Kirtland) men’s basketball team improve their 2011-12 record to 2-0 after swamping Fleming College of Ontario 62-37 in a game played on Rochester College’s home court.  The ‘Birds won this game with a tenacious, aggressive and efficient defense.  Athletic Director Richard Silverman says, “This is the kind of defense this team is going to have to play if we are going to be successful against the more talented teams in the MCCAA East.  The Firebirds face some offensive challenges and will have to work hard to score points.”

Dwayne Thurmond, Nehemiah Crowder and Oleg Donetskiy led the defense with two steals each and Marcus Davis lead the Firebirds with eight rebounds.  Stavros Schizas led the scorers with 22 points, with John Edwards chipping in 16 points, and Dwayne Thurmond added nine.  In addition, Edwards played a strong floor game dishing out five assists.

The ‘Birds next game will be on the road against Northwood University on Nov. 21st.  They return home to host the Oppy Thanksgiving Tournament facing Alma on Nov. 25th and Rochester College on Nov. 26th.  The tournament takes place at the McGregor Athletic Complex (MAC) in Mio.
