KCC Firebirds Wrap Up Cross Country Season

Brown Heads to Nationals in New Mexico

The Firebirds men’s cross-country team ended their 2011 season at the NJCAA Region XII Championship at Lansing Community College, Oct. 29, with one exception.  Titus Brown (Fairview) finished 12th in the 76-man field, qualifying to compete in the National Championship which takes place next weekend at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico.  Brown’s time over the 8K course was 26:40.9, 3:05 behind the winning time.

As a team, the ‘Birds finished 7th in the nine-team field.  Mike Kilbreath posted a time of 28:02.9, followed by Joe Jones (28:23.8), Steve Wysocki (29:00.0), Jordan Becker (29:47.7), Harley Glover (30:47.6) and Matt Bolinger (33:30.6).

The Lady Firebirds placed 8th in the nine-team field.  Camille Szubelak (Fairview) maintained her consistent season performance, finishing 24th in the 50-women field with a time of 21:00.0 on the 5K course.  Samantha Jones (29:39.2) and Mariah Jones (29:39.6) posted good times as well in the last meet of the season.
