KCC Hosts Houghton Lake High School Football Tailgate Event

Kirtland Community College (Kirtland), in conjunction with TV 9&10 Sports, hosted a tailgate event at Houghton Lake High School’s match up against Gladwin High School on October 14.  Despite chilly temps, gusting wind and intermittent rain showers, hundreds of HLHS and GHS fans showed up to support their teams while enjoying hot dogs, pop and free giveaways from both Kirtland and TV 9&10.

Kirtland mascot “Sparky the Firebird” made an appearance and was a big hit with the gridiron crowd.  Children young and old enjoyed having their photos taken with Sparky.  A special highlight of the night occurred when Sparky was allowed to direct the HLHS marching band as they prepared to enter the football stadium.  When asked about a favorite highlight of the night, Sparky simply fluttered his wings and gestured “No Comment.”

Kirtland provides open access to education and cultural opportunities to enrich the lives of the people in Northern Michigan.  Sparky and the entire Kirtland staff are proud to act as community partners throughout the Kirtland service area.  We would like to extend a special thank you to the HLHS students, faculty and community members for the warm welcome Kirtland enjoyed during the tailgate event.
