Kirtland Community College achieved 24th place recognition in the Center for Online Education’s Best Online Community College’s 2016-17 survey. The award is given to community colleges based on criteria measuring online flexibility, academics, and experience and affordability.
Academics and online flexibility account for 75% of the ranking score,” said Dr. Julie Lavender, Vice President of Instructional Services. “The academic score takes into account transfer rate, graduation rate, retention rate, and student-faculty ratio, while online flexibility looks at total number of online media, number of online associate programs, and percent of students participating in online classes.
“To me, the bottom line is that we are providing access to quality education that reaches beyond the four walls of our brick and mortar locations. I am honored by this achievement.”
“It is really exciting for Kirtland to be recognized for our online learning community,” said David Cable, Kirtland’s Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. “We have incredible instructors that strive to make high quality education accessible and convenient for students locally and afar.”
Online associate degree programs provide a flexible alternative for current and prospective students. Currently, Kirtland offers associate degrees in accounting, business administration, business management, and health information technology. Certificate programs in accounting and small business management/entrepreneurship are also offered, as is a large selection of individual online courses, allowing for increased scheduling flexibility for students in northern Michigan by combining both alternatives to combine both online and face-to-face courses.
