Kirtland, AAV sponsor art class in Grayling

GRAYLING – Kirtland Community College and the AuSable Artisan Village recently announced they will be sponsoring, “The Artist’s Way – Embrace your Creativity,” featuring author, artist and educator Mary Backlund of Gaylord.

This four-week, eight-hour course will immerse the students in the realms of design, color and style, and propel them to new heights of creativity and consciousness.

“‘Mary B’ brings years of experience to the class and combines the ideals of Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artist’s Way’ with her unique energy and insights drawn from her writings, teaching, design and artwork,” said Clay Horton, the program’s coordinator and instructor at Kirtland.

Backlund’s recent book, “Knowing More,” provides guidance and solace for our times.

“Growth does not always attract others to join you,” Backlund states in a passage from the book. “But growth always gives you wings (or at least a new pair of fabulous walking boots) if you allow and accept it to happen.”

The Artist’s Way – Embrace your Creativity is scheduled to meet each Monday from June 6-27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grayling Township Hall, located off of M-72 West in Grayling. The course fee is $75 and includes course materials.

“The class is open to anyone who wants to boost his or her creativity and rediscovery why they are alive,” Horton added.

For more information or to register, interested persons should call 989-275-5000, extension 279.

Annually, more than 3,000 students attend a variety of certificate and two-year degree programs at Kirtland’s four locations – the main campus near Roscommon and the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) in Gaylord, as well as sites in Grayling and West Branch – with the college’s service area including all or parts of Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Otsego, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Gladwin and Alcona counties, and the surrounding areas.
