Kirtland, Hanson Hills team to offer skiing class

Kirtland Community College and the Hanson Hills Recreation Area in Grayling have teamed together for a second consecutive winter season to offer one very cool class.

For six weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 11, Hanson Hills will host “Cross Country Skiing CEC 11605” on Tuesday afternoons from 4 to 5:50 p.m. The non-credit class is part of Kirtland’s community education program.

“We’re thrilled to once again partner with Hanson Hills to offer this class,” said Mark Burger, community education coordinator at Kirtland. “And, we feel this is a class that anyone who loves to be outdoors, even during winter, will enjoy and have a positive learning experience.”

Cost is $60 and includes a trail pass and equipment rental. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

“This introductory course is designed to provide a wide range of experiences in cross country skiing,” Burger added.

About 3,200 students attend Kirtland on an annual basis to study in the more than 80 certificate and two-year degree programs offered at Kirtland’s three locations – the main campus near Roscommon, the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) in Gaylord and in West Branch – with the college’s service area including all or parts of Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Otsego, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Gladwin and Alcona counties, and the surrounding areas.
