Kirtland hosts event for homeschoolers Feb. 14

ROSCOMMON – Kirtland Community College is reaching out to students who may not be in the traditional K-12 classrooms, showing how the local two-year college can help them by hosting a “Homeschooler’s Steps for Success Assembly” at its main campus near Roscommon on Monday, Feb. 14.

“Kirtland is here to help provide everyone affordable access to quality opportunities in higher education that they can then use to build a better future,” said Marianne Kuzimski, recruiting coordinator at Kirtland. “This event is designed to make sure one of those groups we serve, homeschoolers, know what we have to offer them.”

The Homeschooler’s Steps for Success Assembly is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 14, with those planning to attend being asked to be at the Kirtland Center for the Performing Arts, also known as the G.I. Stewart Auditorium, by 8:45 a.m. Homeschooled students, their parents and those active in home school groups are encouraged to attend.

“Homeschooled students and their families are invited to our campus for a full morning of information relating to Kirtland and the college experience here,” Kuzimski added.

The event will include meeting Kirtland’s president, Dr. Tom Quinn, as well as information on college programs, career paths, admission process, financial aid, a campus tour and lunch at The Kirtland Grill. There will also be prize giveaways.

Persons planning to attend are asked to R.S.V.P. and may do so by contacting Kuzimski directly at 989-275-5000, extension 258, or via e-mail at marianne.kuzimski@kirtland.edu.

Annually, about 3,200 students attend a variety of certificate and two-year degree programs at Kirtland’s four locations – the main campus near Roscommon and the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) in Gaylord, as well as sites in Grayling and West Branch – with the college’s service area including all or parts of Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Otsego, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Gladwin and Alcona counties, and the surrounding areas.
