Kirtland Community College’s Cosmetology Department will present “Beautician and the Beast” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 21, at the college’s main campus near Roscommon.
The special event includes a main show from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as “mini booths” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the department’s salon. The event will also showcase retail booths, where those attending can purchase various beautifying products.
The “main event” will feature four, two-person teams who work to transform models in minutes to having the latest styles.
“Our students take over the auditorium (the Kirtland Center for the Performing Arts) to bring you their creative versions of the latest hard and make-up beautification,” said Shannon Weaver, cosmetology coordinator at Kirtland. “Cuts, colors, styles will all be done right in front of your eyes, taking up to only five minutes.”
The mini booths will include mini manicures, paraffin hand dips, waxing, blow drying, straightening, curls and crimping styles.
“All the work shown will be done by students, including the main stage shows,” Weaver said. “We hope you enjoy this special event.”
Annually, about 3,200 students attend a variety of certificate and two-year degree programs at Kirtland’s four locations – the main campus near Roscommon and the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) in Gaylord, as well as sites in Grayling and West Branch – with the college’s service area including all or parts of Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Otsego, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Gladwin and Alcona counties, and the surrounding areas.
