Kirtland Community College is holding an open house to showcase its completely renovated automotive technology lab and teaching classrooms. Area auto dealers, repair shops and parts suppliers, as well as high school students, automotive instructors and counselors, are invited to tour the new facility and see first-hand the extensive improvements completed over the summer.
This free open house will be held on Tuesday, September 27. High school students and school officials are invited at attend anytime from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and business people in the automotive industry can attend from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments and giveaways will be provided for attendees during both sessions.
“The renovations to the automotive lab are incredible,” Kirtland automotive instructor, Bob Oakes said. “From a complete overhaul of the space to optimize workflow patterns, to entirely new equipment – this lab has it all.
“Kirtland has invested nearly $500,000 to streamline training and learning spaces, install all new equipment, computers and diagnostic equipment, creating what we believe to be one of the most state-of-the-art facilities in the state.”
Funds from a voter-approved millage and the State’s Community College Skilled Trades Education Program (CCSTEP) grant allowed Kirtland to make these enhancements:
2 new alignment racks with alignment machines
9 new, fully equipped service bays
12 dedicated work bench areas
36-feet of transmission tear down area
Renovated lab, floor, walls and equipment
The open house will be at the Automotive Technology Center on Kirtland’s main campus near Roscommon, 10775 N. St. Helen Road. There is no need to confirm your attendance.
