Kirtland Free Skilled Trades Open House May 8

Kirtland Community College is hosting a free Skilled Trades Open House at its Gaylord M-TEC location (60 Livingston Boulevard) from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. Business, Industry, Production and Manufacturing professionals are invited to tour Kirtland’s facility for a first-hand look at available programs, specialized training opportunities and to discuss immediate needs for custom work force development training to strengthen existing workforces.

“Kirtland recognizes the challenges area manufacturers and businesses are experiencing with skills gaps, retaining qualified talent, and the future needs that will be occurring as economic growth and recovery continues,” said Erine Adams, Kirtland Workforce Development Coordinator.

“Our Workforce Development efforts are focused on flexibility and effectiveness helping employers to back fill existing skills gaps and help companies invest in their existing employees while becoming more competitive in their markets.”

Open house attendees will experience Kirtland’s Skilled Trades programs first-hand, meet our highly trained and qualified faculty, learn more about program and career options and talk with current students. Northern Michigan industry professionals will also have the opportunity to network with other business owners and food and prizes will be available for all attendees.

Kirtland offers a wide range of high-demand skilled trades training and programs including: Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology, HVAC/R, Industrial and Facilities Mechatronics Technicians and Welding/Fabricating.

“We are able to offer fully accredited, professional, and complete training opportunities,” said Laura Percival, Associate Dean of Occupational Programs. “If these don’t fit your company’s immediate skills training needs, we are able to custom tailor training to fit each employer’s unique situation.”

Annually, more than 3,000 students attend a variety of occupational, skilled trades, two-year and transfer degree programs at Kirtland’s locations near Roscommon, Kirtland-Gaylord, Kirtland-West Branch and in Tawas.  Kirtland also offers a wide range of online courses and degrees, all of which can be completed from home.
