Kirtland’s Neumann First X-Country Woman to Qualify for National Meet

Dana Neumann (Ellsworth) became the first Kirtland woman to qualify for the NJCAA National Cross-country Championships at Rend Lake College in Ina, IL on November 10.  Neumann finished 17th out of a field of 71 runners and the top 19 places qualify for the national finals.  Neumann’s time over the 5K course was 20:34.8.

Other Lady Firebird finishers were Krista Peterson (Roscommon) who finished 45th with a time of 22:42.2 and Mariah Jones (Gaylord) in 35:59.6.  Overall, the women’s team finished 10th out of 11 teams, just ahead of archrival Alpena.

The men’s team finished seventh out of 10 teams, led by Jose Marin (Gaylord) and Evan Thomas (Roscommon) who posted identical times of 27:20:0 over the 8k course and finished tied for 27th in the field of 80 runners.  Other men’s results were: Michael Sutton (Harbor Springs) 38th in 27:52.7, Harley Glover (Atlanta) 45th in 28:29.3, Steven Wysocki  (Hale) 55th in 29:27.3, David Emerick (Roscommon) 75th in 34:33.8 and Zach Hausler (Roscommon) 77th in 34:55.7.
