ROSCOMMON – The Kirtland Center for the Performing Arts will host the second of three Travel Adventure Series presentations, “Iran – Then and Now,” by cinematographer Buddy Hatton, on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the G.I. Stewart Auditorium on the college’s main campus near Roscommon.
The film and commentary begins at 1:30 p.m. and will conclude about 3:30 p.m., with audience members having an opportunity to talk with Hatton. Refreshments will also be available after the show.
“This series of adventure films at Kirtland is a great opportunity for our students and local community members to get a glimpse into areas of the world that many of us have never traveled to,” said Don Wray, director of the KCPA. “Having the series in the afternoon at the college makes it available for our students, as well as local community members who like to get out in the daytime.”
According to KCPA officials, the Nov. 10 presentation will help dispel many misconceptions of the people, the country and the culture of Iran.
Persia, the exotic land of flying carpets and Arabian nights, has been known as Iran since 1935, and is now a modern country of 69 million people. The country is as old as history itself. And Iran’s culture constitutes the focal point and heart of its civilization.
In his film, Hatton attempts to give the viewer a better understanding of Iran’s ancient past and the progressive present. In his comprehensive journey, viewers will discover places, lifestyles and culture they’d never learn about from television.
The Iranian people, dubbed the “Society of the Axis of Evil,” will be revealed by Hatton as some of the most welcoming, generous and hospitable people a traveler will ever meet. Iranian hospitality is one of the unique and distinctive features of its people.
Highlights of the travel series presentation include a look at Iranian cities such as Tehran, Qom, Bandar Anzali, Shush, Shustar, Shiraz, Yazd, Abyaneh and Isfahan.
Tickets, which will be available at the door, for the Nov. 10 event are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. Kirtland students, staff and faculty will be admitted free when presenting a valid college ID.
