ROSCOMMON – Chelsey Williams dropped in a team-high 18 points and Rena Barnett added 16, including 4 three-point baskets, to help lift Kirtland’s Lady Firebirds to a 74-63 win over rival Alpena Community College during the Firebirds last home game of the season, played at the CRAF Center in Roscommon Saturday, Feb. 18.
After a lackluster start against Alpena, which ended at the half with the score tied at 30, the Firebirds picked up their momentum on both ends of the court and got back into the team-style basketball that has defined their play all season.
Emily Henion was also in double digits, adding 14 points for Kirtland, followed by Natalie Foster with 9, Onica Jones with 6, Ashley Andrews with 4, Lizz Stempki with 3 and Evalyn Bain and Emilee Bruner each with 2.
This was the Lady Firebirds’ second win this season over the Lumberjacks, but still leaves Kirtland with a 12-17 overall record, with only one contest remaining in regular-season play. The Lady Firebirds travel to Warren on Tuesday, Feb. 21, to take on Macomb Community College before entering post-season play in the National Junior College Athletic Association in March.
