Kirtland to host 2nd Warbler Wobble

5k, 10k and 1-mile run/walk take place in conjunction with Kirtland’s Warbler Festival on Saturday, May 20

ROSCOMMON – Spring has arrived and it’s time to hit the trails once again in preparation for the second annual Warbler Wobble 5k and 10k races, to be hosted Saturday, May 20 at the 2006 Kirtland’s Warbler Festival. The event, which includes a one-mile fun run – or walk – begins at 10 a.m. and will take place on the scenic wooded trails on and around the campus.

Runners can sign up now by using the registration form found at the festival Web site – warbler.kirtland.edu – or by calling race organizer Teresa Stuck at 989-275-5000, ext. 385. Cost is $15.

“We’re trying to draw some people to the festival who might not otherwise make the trip,” said festival chairman Jim Enger.

Serious birders from around the country know the festival offers the opportunity to see the endangered Kirtland’s warbler on its summer breeding grounds in Michigan. And nature enthusiasts come for the wide range of presentations and displays on outdoor topics. Children love to come to the festival because it offers a full day of fun, including the chance to fish in the Kirtland pond, build and take home their own birdhouse, hunt for fossils and pet exotic animals such as zebras and kangaroos.

Runners can check in at the Wobble Tent, in front of the Kirtland Student Center, beginning at 8 a.m. on May 20. All entrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
