Nelkie, Van Oosten win races in Kirtland’s second Wobble event

ROSCOMMON – Abigail Nelkie and Eric Van Oosten, both of West Branch, were the first to cross the finish line in their respective races during the second Warbler Wobble 5k/10k races which took place Saturday, May 20, in conjunction with the Kirtland’s Warbler Festival.

Hosted on the campus of Kirtland Community College, the festival drew nature lovers and birders from all over the country, as well as 19 participants in the Wobble races and fun run.

Nelkie, 23, won the 10-kilometer race with a time of 39 minutes, 15 seconds. She was followed by Greg Mills, 45, of Bellaire, who ran the woodland course in 42:20 for second place; Jacob Davidson, 25, of Mio, who placed third with a time of 48:57; and James Findlayson, 67, of Rose City, running for the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 882 of Hale, who was fourth at 61:00.

Thirteen runners took part in the 5k run. Participants and their times are as follows:

Lindsay Figley (19), Roscommon, 34:18; 10. Katie Miller (19), Roscommon, 34:24; 11. Allison Horky (18), Roscommon, 34:35; 12. Susan Benander (51), Gladwin, 34:39; 13. Yolanda (48), Roscommon, 42:50.
