Kirtland Community College’s Community Education Department and the Roscommon County Commission on Aging (RCCOA) are partnering to bring the Art of Polish Cuisine cooking series to community members in Roscommon and surrounding counties. The courses are being held at the Houghton Lake Senior Center on 2625 South Townline Road in Houghton Lake. The cost of the series is $50.
The four-week series will be held on Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m. from April 20 – May 11, 2016 and the cost includes all food and kitchen equipment. Local experts Roberta Werle and Phyllis Lyedel will share the techniques and secrets of Polish cuisine in a certified kitchen with enough space to stretch out and prepare all dishes.
The Art of Polish Cuisine explores the culture and cuisine of Eastern Europe and highlights both traditional Polish meals and desserts. Participants will learn the intricacies of Pierogi, Golabki (Polish cabbage rolls), potato and beet borscht, potato dumplings, sparkling cookies and other desserts. Much of the food will be used for a Polish feast during the final session of the class.
