Service Learning: Learning Cohort Projects

The AmeriCorps VISTA, Elle Abeles-Allison, has been working with Caryn Schutte’s Learning Cohort to come up with some on-campus service learning projects.
The students have shown an amazing amount of initiative!
Check out the teams and their project descriptions.

Team Serbinators: This team is organizing a fundraiser for the KCC food pantry by selling  $10 gift cards from Hungry Howie’s Pizza. $5 goes to the food pantry and the other $5 goes to Hungry Howie’s Pizza. The money will go towards purchasing pantry items which aren’t covered by food stamps like body wash, conditioner, toiletries, soap, etc..
This week they are figuring out the logistics with Hungry Howie’s Pizza and should be distributing the $10 cards to their team members to start selling by next week.

Team Energy:  This team is in the process of starting a nutrition and fitness club on campus. They are planning on meeting once a week in a classroom on main campus to exercise, trade recipes and help people create personalized fitness plans. They would also like to design posters with health and exercise advice for around campus.
This week they are planning out the structure of the first meeting and checking in with Dale Shantz to see if they’ll need liability forms for people interested in exercising on campus.

Team Green and Clean: This team is writing a movie script and filming a short promotional film for the KCC food pantry. The students distributed a survey to their classes in order to learn why more people don’t take advantage of the food pantry.
This week they are writing the movie script and making sure they cover all the information Jo Ann Gave thought they should know about the pantry.  (Looks like they need to update their team name also!)
