Deployed troops and veterans across the state will benefit from five Stuff the Truck events taking place on Friday, Nov. 6.
Hosted by the Michigan Veteran Education Initiative, the Stuff the Truck events will benefit student veterans and their dependents, as well as deployed troops and local veterans programs throughout Michigan.
To commemorate Veterans Day, MVEI staff will park military trucks outside Walmart stores in Lansing, Canton, Petoskey, Mt. Pleasant and Marquette, inviting community members to “Stuff the Truck” with donated items.
“The Student Veterans of America chapters at Kirtland, CMU and MMCC are eager to help other veterans in the community,” said Christopher Stanton, MVEI veteran resource representative at Kirtland Community College. “The people of Roscommon are always willing to help veterans and this will certainly be just another example of that support.”
The Stuff the Truck event on Nov. 6 will run from 11 a.m to 7 p.m at the Mt. Pleasant Walmart, 4730 Encore Blvd. Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858.
All donations collected will go to student veterans at Kirtland Community College, Mid-Michigan Community College, Central Michigan University and deployed soldiers overseas.
Suggested donations for local student veterans include 3×5 notecards, college-ruled spiral notebooks and other school supplies as well as headphones, USB flash drives, bottled water and Walmart gift cards. For care packages sent to deployed troops, beef jerky, baby wipes, hard candy, sport drink dry mixes and books and magazines are encouraged.
