Kirtland’s Gaylord M-TEC is bringing a free four-day skilled trades summer camp to girls ages 14-17 on Jun. 20-23. This camp is designed for girls with an interest in skilled trades occupations or STEM careers and will run daily from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Lunch is provided but space is limited and registration is required.
“The goal of our camp is to help young ladies “get excited and ready for skilled trades” — or GEARS, as we’re calling it,” said Luann Mabarak, Director/Academic Advisor at Kirtland’s Gaylord M-TEC. “At our GEARS Camp, participants will experience the trades with hands-on training while learning from trade professionals and expert instructors.”
“These are all skills that are beneficial to learn in general, and very applicable to everyday life. Plus, it’s a great way to connect with other females who share a lot of the same likes and interests.”
The GEARS Camp will cover a variety of occupations and STEM career opportunities including: welding, mechatronics, HVAC/R, electrical technology and CNC machining.
“We’re very excited about our first GEARS Camp,” said Mabarak. “Our goal is to deliver a successful experience to these girls. Next year, we plan to expand GEARS Camp to include both male and female students. It really is a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of trade and STEM careers.”
