Director of Communications and Marketing
Responsible for coordinating the college’s marketing and communications efforts. Acts to support the instructional mission of the institution and to promote positive student and customer relations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Plans, develops, schedules, executes, and evaluates targeted, cross-channel digital communication and advertising campaigns, strategies, tools, and tactics to meet college recruitment and communications objectives.
- Coordinates the college’s marketing efforts with external vendors and consultants.
- Promotes and maintains the college’s presence on social media, other relevant digital platforms, as well as traditional advertising and communication channels such as radio, newspaper, and television. Manages and maintains high-quality content, brand equity, display standards, and usage guidelines.
- Writes and edits college publications, promotional materials, and news releases.
- Continually evaluates marketing and advertising results and implements strategies to consistently improve.
- Provides expertise on current and emerging digital trends, best practices, and technologies. Investigates and understands the various digital platforms used by each of the college’s key target audiences, provides recommendations for integration into college communication practices, and ensures messages are customized, formatted, and delivered optimally.
- Analyzes, reviews, and reports on the effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results. Works with employees to determine the allocation of funds to all market segments using digital and traditional advertising and promotional methods.
- Monitors departmental budgets to ensure effective use of funds.
- Provides support for divisional and college-wide events and activities as needed.
- Assist with maintaining portions of the college website(s) as needed.
- Support those who represent the college to the public by assisting with presentation development and related written materials.
- Develops project timelines, effectively communicates with stakeholders and manages project elements to meet deadlines.
- Acts as photographer/videographer for the college, shooting, editing and publishing photos and videos that can be used on the official college website, social media sites, in print publications and advertising. Contributes to the college’s database of pictures and videos for use in various promotional materials.
- Acts as the liaison to outside community groups.
- Serves as the point of contact to the press in the case of a college emergency or mishap.
- Tracks all college sponsorships and allocates funds to agencies requesting sponsorships according to added value.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the college president.
ATTENDANCE – Individuals in this position are expected to be generally available during the normal business hours of the college, and may occasionally be asked to vary their schedule to meet department requirements. May at times require evening and/or weekend activity and travel.
WORKING CONDITIONS – Conditions may vary from a typical office or classroom environment. Individuals in this position must be cognizant of student’s understanding and progress, able to communicate effectively with students and associated professionals, and able to operate technical equipment in a modern classroom or online environment. Individuals must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of client personnel. The position requires frequent travel which may occur into the evening, on weekends, and/or during inclement weather.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, or related field
- One to three years of experience in related field, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with diverse audiences, in a professional manner
- Proficiency in standard office software applications and ability to learn new software as need arises
- Working knowledge of graphic design and digital imaging software
- Demonstrated effectiveness in organization and project management.
- Ability to prioritize requests accordingly
- Ability to work independently with close attention to detail
- Ability to effectively schedule time on task and maintain effective communications with college staff while operating with a high degree of autonomy
