Information Technology Specialist
Responsible for assisting in the day-to-day information technology (IT) operations for the college and assisting with providing systems support for end users. Completes support tasks for hardware devices and software packages, helps with installation setups, assists other staff when deploying new software and upgrade installations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Provides first level of technical support to resolve hardware, connectivity problems, user access, installation configuration, upgrades to desktop hardware and peripherals, and component configuration.
- Assists with installation and configuration of computer software, apps, or upgrades on college owned information technology systems; including personal computers, tablets, virtual desktop clients, and connections to the data networks.
- Performs data recovery, assists in workstation life cycle rotations, monitors servers, works with other information technology staff to minimize downtime and prevent data corruption.
- Installs, configures, and maintains multi-user software to be accessed from file servers.
- Works in close cooperation with department staff to facilitate the management of computer labs, installing any software needed for each semester and/or special seminars.
- Provides audio-visual technology setup for college events.
- Works with System Administrator and Director of Information Technology in planning, installation, and documentation of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
- Assists with network support issues such as account creation, installation and maintenance of network printers, low level maintenance, management of disk space, etc.
- Assists with technology planning and implementation including researching hardware and software applications, classroom design, standards development, and documentation.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure security, connectivity, and compatibility between systems.
- Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the network.
- Provides remote support and escalate issues to supervisors as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the Director of Information Technology.
ATTENDANCE – Individuals in this position are generally expected to be present and available for work during the normal business hours of the college throughout the calendar year, and may occasionally be asked to vary their schedule to meet department requirements. May also be required to travel to various Kirtland campus locations.
WORKING CONDITIONS – Conditions are those of a typical indoor office environment. Individuals in this position must be able to able to lift and move fragile objects up to 30 pounds. Work may require frequent bending, lifting, a wide range of arm movement, finger and hand dexterity, and may occasionally require climbing and working from ladders or lifting devices. Setup or maintenance of some peripheral equipment may require work in areas with restricted room for movement. Visual identification of equipment, parts, and connections is necessary. Setup, maintenance, or evaluation of some equipment may require work in places with restricted room for movement. The individual in this position may from time to time have access to sensitive and highly confidential information and must maintain and enforce strict confidentiality as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in computer science, data processing, or related field
- Three to five years of computer support experience, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Proficiency in Apple’s operating systems, Microsoft Windows, Active Directory and Microsoft Office software such as Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
- Operational knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and application virtualization
- Operational knowledge of network and routing protocols
- Operational knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on computers and peripheral equipment
- Ability to communicate information to faculty, students, staff, and the public in a clear and concise manner
- Ability and desire to work effectively as a member of a team
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 30 pounds
