POL 1.070 Minors on Campus
As a community college, Kirtland is committed to creating a family-friendly environment while also encouraging safety and security for all students, staff, and visitors.
For the protection of minors and the College, minors on any Kirtland property, under the age of 14, must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times or enrolled in a Kirtland program or class.
Parents and legal guardians maintain responsibility for the behavior and safety of the minor while on college property.
Enrolled Minors
Minors are eligible to enroll in and attend classes if they meet course prerequisites and other requirements as outlined by the admissions and registration policies.
Minors enrolled in supervised programs operated, sponsored, or hosted by the College or affiliates must observe the procedures and protocols required for participation in those programs.
Minors in Classrooms
In order to prevent disruption to the success of our learning environments, students are discouraged from bringing minors to campus while attending a class unless the student receives express, written permission from the instructor in advance.
The student remains responsible for accompanying and supervising the minor during scheduled class time.
Permission may be revoked at any time.
Employees
Non-instructional staff should similarly receive permission from their supervisor in advance, whenever possible, prior to bringing a minor to campus while working. Instructional staff should likewise receive permission from their supervisor in advance, whenever possible, prior to bringing a minor to campus while instructing a course.
The employee remains responsible for accompanying and supervising the minor during scheduled work hours.
Permission may be revoked at any time.
