We have a path that fits your goals
Community college isn’t for one kind of person. In fact, we’re built to support different kinds of students with different kinds of paths. We bring together people from all walks of life who share a common goal: making a better life for themselves without taking on more debt than necessary.
For University-Intenders
For students who plan to gain a four-year degree or more, Kirtland can provide a rich experience for how and where you’ll take your first two years of courses, while also saving you money.
Guaranteed coursework that counts toward your university of choice
Our transfer programs build on the MTA (Michigan Transfer Agreement), which guarantees 30 credits will transfer to any public university in Michigan, along with a number of private colleges as well. Beyond the 30 credits offered through the MTA, our transfer associate degrees are flexible enough to customize to the university and program you’re planning. You’ll map out the perfect plan for your degree alongside our academic advisors, who understand how to plan the classes that work best for your goals.
Cost savings and better experiences: Win-Win!
Yes. You’ll save a lot on tuition costs, because our students save between $6,000-$14,000 annually on public Michigan university costs. Kirtland’s in-district tuition rates are among the lowest in the State.
But, that’s not the best reason to start at Kirtland. Our faculty are focused on designing classes and experiences for students’ first two years. They focus on meaningful teaching and connections with students.
Statistically speaking, because you started at Kirtland, you’ll be more likely to complete your university degree than students who start at the university.
For Career Seekers or Those Looking for a Change of Career
Kirtland offers one and two-year options that get students trained quickly for future careers. Whether you’re looking for a new start or a fresh start, we offer programs that are designed to get you the skills you need in order to excel.
Many of our degrees combine hands-on learning and real-life simulations or placements in order to prepare you for the work you’ll do. Depending on the route you’ll take, you’ll focus on these practical skills for fast career entry or combine hands-on practice with general education courses that build your confidence, problem solving, and communication skills.

For Students Enrolled in Another College or University
Kirtland courses are excellent complements to your university schedule! Each year, we welcome many guest students who attend other colleges in Michigan and choose to transfer Kirtland courses back instead of taking the higher-priced classes offered at their home institution.
If you’re enrolled in another Michigan college or university, congratulations—you’re making progress toward your bachelor degree or beyond. And, swapping some of your mandatory courses with the same classes at Kirtland can save you money and speed up your progress.
Whether you take your general classes at your home university or with us, they will count the same toward your intended degree, and they’ll keep you moving forward.
And, saving hundreds of dollars on that same course is a nice bonus. You’re smart—we’re sure you’ll spend or save that extra money responsibly!
Kirtland has been recognized as one of the top online community colleges in Michigan, so if you prefer to stay in Lansing, Ann Arbor, Mt. Pleasant, Detroit, Saginaw…that’s ok too. You can enroll in our exceptional online classes, still benefit from saving money, and enjoy learning in classes built for student interaction and success.
Or, come home for the summer and enjoy taking in-person classes at our beautiful, new Grayling campus, located just off of I-75.
You’ll never be a number
You matter here. We see you as a whole person, not just a tuition payment or a student ID number. Our faculty and staff get to know students and appreciate that your background, circumstances, and goals are unique to you and deserve to be treated that way.
