246th Birthday of US Marine Corp celebrated by establishing the George and Nancy Gingerick Endowed Scholarship
Grayling High School graduates will have the opportunity to apply for a new scholarship honoring George and Nancy Gingerick, local residents of Grayling for many years. A donation was made on their behalf to Kirtland Community College to establish a permanent scholarship on the occasion of one of George and Nancy’s favorite birthdays, that of the United States Marine Corps.
The donation was made by Charlie and Kimberly Tinker who were proud friends of George and Nancy. Charlie stated “George and Nancy would have a mile wide smile on because of this. We don’t think that this is the last you will hear of them. “Marines Lead the Way – Semper Fi” Semper Fi”.
George and Nancy Gingerick were proud members of the Grayling community. They were especially appreciative of the excellent schools and hospital that we all share. George proudly served our country in the service of United States Marine Corps for 6 years and Michigan National Guard for 16 years. George and Nancy both worked at and retired from MATES, Camp Grayling’s Mobilization and Training Equipment Site. He served as Commander of American Legion Post 106 and participated in the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots. Additionally George stepped forward and participated in countless honor guard details recognizing the passing of fellow service members. George and Nancy travelled extensively, enjoyed NASCAR, golf and Tiger Baseball. They believed in the power of hard work and later in life they owned The Ole Barn, now Tinkers Junction.
