Transfer Pathways
The courses listed in each pathway are those most likely to help a student prepare for transfer to a four-year institution in the specified major. However, since colleges and universities differ in specific course requirements by major, it is vitally important that students consult with their advisor when designing their academic plans while at Kirtland.
This pathway is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in fields that require a biology major. Biology covers a wide variety of careers that can be loosely grouped into two main categories: Microorganism/Cellular Processes Based Careers and Organismal & Ecology Based Careers.
Microorganism/Cellular Process Based Careers can lead to:
- Domestic animal & agricultural research careers such as soil scientist, food technologist, toxicologists, parasitologists with state and federal agencies, non-profits & private agencies, fermentation scientists in food production, etc.
- Industrial research careers such as fermentation production of industrial solvents, biochemists, biotechnologist, industrial hygiene and safety, etc.
- Human health research careers such as geneticist, genetic counselor, pharmacologist, biomedical engineer, biomanufacturing, etc.
Organismal & Ecology Based Careers can lead to:
- Wildlife or forestry management careers such as conservationists, park rangers/naturalists, wildlife rehabilitation specialists, etc.
- Domestic animal or agricultural management could include animal trainers/nutritionists, food inspectors, range animal or plant breeders, etc.
