POL 5.425 Grievance Policy
Kirtland recognizes situations may arise in which employee concerns need to be managed through informal and formal processes. Kirtland encourages employees to seek resolution through open communication and informal discussion but has also adopted a formal grievance procedure establishing a structured review process to ensure fair and timely resolution.
The following principals will serve as the foundation for the Kirtland grievance process:
- Grievances will be handled in an expeditious and fair manner.
- Grievances and the proceedings under this policy will be treated confidentially to the greatest extent possible. However, limitations on confidentiality may exist to ensure thorough and accurate investigations, which may include providing parties the opportunity to respond to allegations, providing information to allow parties to implement corrective action, or fulfilling duties imposed by law.
- Employees are protected from discrimination and retaliation in connection with exercising rights under this grievance policy.
- The Human Resources Department will maintain procedural guidance for all grievance processes.
This policy affirms the right of employees to have those concerns addressed pursuant to Kirtland’s established grievance procedure. Grievance procedures for unionized employees shall be established in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
