  1. The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) offers CPC (Certified Professional Coder) Certification and CPB (Certified Professional Biller) Certification.
  2. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) offers the CCA (Certified Coding Associate) Certification, the CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), and the CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based) Certification.

**The cost of the Certification Exams is not covered by the cost of tuition. Students are responsible for paying for their Certification Exams and all other related fees.

Although AAPC and AHIMA may not require specific courses to sit for the exams, both organizations highly recommend core foundational courses to better prepare candidates. Additionally, for coding specialist credentials (CCS or CCS-P), it is also recommended that candidates have at least one year of direct coding experience.

Kirtland’s Medical Billing and Coding program helps you gain the knowledge and helps you prepare for taking exams offered by AAPC and AHIMA.
