MI Reconnect is for residents who are 25 years old or older, who have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent and have not yet completed a college degree (associate or bachelor’s).

Apply for Reconnect

Are you 21-24 years old? For a limited time only, MI Reconnect is OPEN to you too!

Find out more by visiting our 21-24 MI Reconnect page.

What EXACTLY is Michigan Reconnect?

Michigan Reconnect can help you earn a degree at Kirtland Community College and secure a high-paying career—tuition-free for in-district students (out-of-district students pay the difference) .

The Michigan Reconnect program is for residents who are 25 years or older and have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent. Michigan Reconnect will help pay the costs of tuition or training for eligible adults who want to pursue an associate degree or technical degree. The program also offers skills scholarships to help cover the cost of tuition to earn certification in manufacturing, construction, information technology, healthcare or business management. Michigan Reconnect pays the remaining balance of tuition and mandatory fees after other state and federal financial aid have been applied.

In order to be eligible for Michigan Reconnect, adults must meet the following criteria:

  • Age 25 or older
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Michigan resident for at least one year
  • Not yet completed a college degree (associate or bachelor’s)

WHY take advantage of Michigan Reconnect?

Less than 50% of Michiganders have college degrees, and the Sixty-by-30 Challenge is trying to change that by offering tuition-free community college to adults.

What is Sixty by 30?

It’s a plan to equip at least 60% of Michiganders with college credentials by the year 2030. Not simply in order to boost the State’s college going rate, but because what you learn in college will change your life and open doors.

And Michigan wants to stay competitive, bringing in better employment opportunities and better jobs for its citizens. Attracting the next great company to the State means we need a workforce with skills to match.

We know that Michiganders have grit and ingenuity. We know we’re some of the toughest, most reliable folks in the US. But, without college skills, too many of our neighbors go underpaid and underappreciated.

It’s time that changed!

75 percent of jobs require a high school diploma
Increased Earnings of $7,500 annually

Community Colleges and FREE Funds for Adults through MI Reconnect

A two-year degree increases your earning power by $7,500/year. And 75% of Michigan jobs require education beyond high school.

In under 35 years, that totals a quarter million dollars.

But, it’s often hard for adults to imagine returning to school. There are lots of reasons we tell ourselves we can’t or we can’t today.

“I’m too old.”
“I’m too busy.”
“I can’t afford it.”
“I’m not college material.”

It’s time to think again and to reconnect to your aspirations and your value. What do you want? What are you worth? What makes you happy?

MI Reconnect can help! Through this free money program, people 25-years-old and older can attend their in-district community college tuition-free. That means, if you live in Kirtland’s service area, you won’t pay a penny toward your tuition. Not now and not throughout the time you pursue your better future.

MI Reconnect provides funding toward your community college education that you will never need to repay. It is not a loan program. These are truly free funds to support you.
