Kirtland Community College & Food Bank of Eastern Michigan Team Up for Another Successful Food Distribution Event
Kirtland Community College recently reaffirmed its dedication to local neighbors by partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to provide essential food supplies to approximately 594 individuals and 212 families, a marked increase from previous years’ events.
The impact was visible early Friday morning, as cars began lining up before distribution began. Dozens of Kirtland faculty, staff, and students worked shoulder-to-shoulder with community volunteers to unload and organize the pallets of food that arrived to support our area families.
The distribution event featured a variety of food items, ranging from fresh produce and pantry staples to frozen meat, dairy products, and snacks. The entirety of the food was generously supplied by the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
“We were blown away by the turnout and the sense of community throughout the day,” said Alex Murphy, Kirtland Student Success Coach. “With current gas and grocery prices hitting families hard, in addition to the flooding in the area, it was incredibly meaningful to provide some relief and support where we could. “
The success of the food drive reinforces Kirtland’s dedication to both education and community outreach. By joining hands with local partners, Kirtland has shown that its mission goes far beyond the classroom: it is about looking out for one another and ensuring that every member of our community has the support they need to thrive.
“Events like this remind me how powerful it is to come together and help one another,” finished Murphy.
With community service efforts with collaborative partners, Kirtland remains steadfast in the belief that a more compassionate community is a stronger community for all.
