Former Frederic Resident Establishes Scholarship at Kirtland Community College
Peter Horton, a former resident of Frederic, Michigan and a graduate of Grayling High School, has established a scholarship with the Kirtland Foundation in order to pay it forward. “I lived and went to school there years ago,” he said, “when my parents’ house burned down the people of Frederic helped us a lot.” Horton received his A.A.S. in Business Marketing from Kirtland in 1980, and currently has son enrolled at Kirtland M-Tec.
Mr. Horton, now teaching ESL in Saudi Arabia, would like to assist residents of Frederic with their college endeavors, stating, “I want to help the most students from Frederic that I can.” Four scholarships will be given out in total, one for a senior at Grayling High School, two for any students originally from Frederic who is now enrolled at a major university, and one for a Kirtland Community College student.
Specific guidelines for the scholarship will be made available on the Kirtland Foundation’s website at www.kirtland.edu /foundation.
