Dr. Gary Roberts, President

Dr. Gary Roberts was born and raised in Southwest Michigan. He holds an A.A. degree from Lake Michigan College as well as a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Western Michigan University (in Political science). Dr. Roberts has worked in both the private sector and the public. Dr. Roberts began his academic career at Lake Michigan College in 2002, first as a part-time instructor and then as a full-time instructor. In later years, he served as Chair of the Department of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Director of the Honors program, and eventually as the Dean of Arts and Sciences. In January of 2022, Dr. Roberts began serving in the role as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC). During his time in this role, Dr. Roberts served as the Chief Academic Officer for IVCC as well as its Accreditation Liaison Officer. In November 2023 Dr. Roberts was selected as Kirtland Community College’s 8th President and began actively serving as Kirtland’s President in March 2024. Dr. Roberts, his wife, Mandie, and their chihuahua, Gizmo, currently reside in Houghton Lake, Michigan.
