Kirtland Community College Announces Start of Fall 2024 Semester
Grayling, MI (August 21, 2024) – Kirtland Community College is excited to welcome students for the Fall 2024 semester, beginning Monday, August 26. As the new academic year approaches, Kirtland prepares to offer various educational opportunities and resources to support student success.
This fall, Kirtland continues its commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education to students across Northern Michigan. With a diverse selection of programs, courses, and learning formats, Kirtland aims to meet the needs of traditional and non-traditional students.
“We are very excited to welcome new and returning students to both our main campus in Grayling and our regional campus in Gaylord. Whether a student wishes to complete a few courses out of interest, a short-term certificate, a program of study, or a transfer degree, Kirtland is here to serve you,” said Kirtland President Dr. Gary Roberts. “This year, we even have the Michigan Guarantee, which we encourage all of our prospective students to explore with our advisors and student financial aid specialists. Numerous other financial aid packages are also available, including those to veterans and their families. Lots of excitement going on at Kirtland. We hope to see you soon!”
Kirtland offers over 30 associate degree and certificate programs designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in today’s competitive job market. Programs are available in health sciences, business, information technology, trades, and the arts, providing pathways for students to enter the workforce directly or transfer to four-year institutions for further education.
To accommodate students’ varying schedules and learning preferences, Kirtland offers a blend of in-person, online, and hybrid courses. These flexible learning options ensure students balance their education with work, family, and other responsibilities.
“At Kirtland, we understand that every student has commitments outside their education. That’s why we’ve designed our flexible learning options and tailored resources to support students wherever they are,” said Kirtland Vice President of Student Services Michelle Vyskocil. “Whether through online courses, hybrid classes, or personalized support services, we’re committed to ensuring that our students can achieve their academic goals without compromising their responsibilities.”
Students at Kirtland will benefit from the college’s state-of-the-art facilities, including modern classrooms and specialized labs tailored to program needs. These resources provide hands-on learning experiences critical for developing practical skills in fields such as nursing, cardiac sonography, surgical technology, and occupational trades.
Along with facilities creating a unique learning environment, Kirtland offers a wide range of scholarships through the Kirtland Foundation and financial aid opportunities to help make higher education affordable for all students. With tuition costs at Kirtland being a third of the national average compared to four-year institutions, these scholarships, and financial aid options cover the majority of costs associated with obtaining a degree in higher education for many attending students.
“Kirtland students will benefit from expert instructors who care about their success,” said Kirtland’s Dean of Arts and Sciences John Thiel. “They’ll find support from Kirtland’s advisors and staff members who will take the time to get to know their personal hopes and dreams and work hard to set them on the right path to achieve their goals. And you can’t beat the amazing facilities on our campuses!”
This semester also will mark the launch of several new programs at Kirtland aimed at enhancing the educational experience and broadening opportunities for students. Among the new program highlights are:
- Field Biology of Northern Michigan: This course, which was removed from the 2012 offerings and is returning this semester, accommodates both in-person and online students. It offers a unique blend of hands-on fieldwork and flexible online learning in biology.
- Computer Programming: This Associate of Applied Science degree is designed to provide students with the foundational skills and knowledge needed for careers in IT programming with an emphasis on computer gaming.
- CNC Machinist: While not new to Kirtland, the CNC Machinist program is now available on the Grayling Campus. This certificate program teaches the skills needed to seek gainful employment in the manufacturing industry.
For the Fall 2024 semester, Kirtland offers several new scholarships, including those for students pursuing high-demand fields. Financial aid staff members and Kirtland Foundation members are available to assist students in navigating the application process and ensuring they receive the support they need to achieve their educational goals.
Along with educational opportunities, Kirtland will also host several events, including welcome week activities, community education classes, and public events, designed to help currently enrolled and potential future students experience what Kirtland offers. These events are great opportunities for attendees to build networks, learn new skills, and engage with the community.
